Let’s enjoy this last stretch of Fall – and try to hold off the Christmas preparations until at least Thanksgiving.

Happy Friday everyone!
Another week in the books, and we saw some “wet snow” here this week. Looks like next week we should see some actual snow, though it *should* melt. Anyway enough on the weather updates…
How do you feel about there being only seven and a half weeks left in 2014? I was adding some paid time off to my calendar at work and it dawned on me just how few weeks remain for the year.
Some other updates and random thoughts:
- New Car! For a few years my wife and I both drove aging and somewhat unreliable of cars. We replaced one a few months ago when my 2001 Saturn L200 reached 220,000 miles and this past weekend I drove over 200 miles round-trip to get rid of our 1999 Dodge Stratus that was having a ton of problems. I got a great deal on a 2008 Kia Spectra and it feels strange to drive a car that is new(er) and reliable.
- Mid-term elections – Compared to the past few election cycles I was pretty “meh” about the election on Tuesday. I wasn’t crazy about either of the Republican candidates in my State for Senate or Governor, but I did go to the polls and voted.
I watched the election returns and it was like the old days when I was super plugged into politics. I was a political blogger and polysci major a few years ago but since then have lost some of my desire to follow the news.
I’m not sure I mentioned it int he past, but since 2008 I have been a huge Ron Paul fan. I actually was one of the first people to donate to Rand Paul’s Senate campaign, technically donating before the campaign was official. I’m looking forward to his Presidential run and I’m sure I will be following politics a lot more closely once he announces he is running.
I’m looking forward to spending some time with friends this weekend and hopefully I will get everything done on my “to do” list early so that I can watch Football on Sunday. I don’t plan on playing any Daily Fantasy Sports but I tend to change my mind last minute and throw a lineup in. It makes the games interesting but also stressful.
Below are the posts we published this week:
- On Monday I shared The Top 10 Financial Moves for People in their 20s

We are headed to South Carolina today for my brother in law’s wedding. It was originally going to take place next year in St. Lucia, so we are much happier about the change in venue which is not only geographically better for us but saves us a lot of money too! I hope you guys have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you so much for including my post DC, I really appreciate it! We’re looking forward to enjoying those last vestiges of fall this weekend too. We had a bit of snow last Sunday, which reminded us that winter is really and truly coming! Hope you and your wife have a great one!

Why do you think you’ve lost a bit of your desire to watch the news? Been reading Tim Ferriss lately?? :)
Sarah Brooks says
Thanks for the feature!! You made my morning :) Congrats on the new (er) vehicles! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

Thank you so much for including my post, DC! And congrats on the “new” car! I’m the same way with driving cars basically into the ground before replacing them. My 2006 Civic should be good for at least 5 more years. Have a great weekend!!

Congrats on the new to you car. I felt the same way when I got my rabbit earlier this year. I felt like I was driving a rental for awhile. Hope you get some football time in and thanks for the link love! I guess I won’t tell you it’s been 80 degrees here. :)

I like the way Ron and Rand Paul have thought outside the traditional political box, but I’m afraid only people who jump in the middle and don’t have any strong opinions get elected. It would be cool to have a President from Kentucky. The last one was a fellow named Lincoln, and I don’t think he did too bad!

We had some much needed rain on Halloween (of all nights) but it’s back up in the 80s and sunny. We enjoy skiing, so honestly we’re looking for the mountains getting some snow so we can enjoy it this winter. But I’m glad I don’t have to deal with it all winter. :) Congrats on the new vehicle and have a great weekend!

We had a couple of great weather days here in the Northeast this week, into the sixties. I’ll take i for November! Enjoy the weekend!

blonde_finance Yeah St. Lucia would be quite the trip! I went to a destination wedding in Hawaii a few years ago and loved it, but it definitely is asking a lot of your guests to fly somewhere so far away.

Mrs. Frugalwoods Hey no problem! Hope you have a great weekend too!

firstqfinance Hmm not the news in general, as I’m a news junkie but more so political news. I used to follow it incredibly closely and now that I’m removed from the political blogosphere and my polysci program at college there just isn’t as much motivation.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Sarah Brooks Hey no problem, glad I could make your morning! Hope you have a great weekend too!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
theFinancegirl No problem! Yeah the last two cars my wife and I had we quite literally drove them until they were essentially worthless. Hope you have a great weekend too!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Beachbudget Thanks! Wow 80 degrees…what a way to put me in a bad mood. Haha just kidding, hope you have a great weekend!

Eyesonthedollar I think Rand is appealing to a lot of voters, and I think he’s smart about knowing what he needs to do to become electable. He’s going after Hillary already so I feel like the election has already begun.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
ShannonRyan I used to snowboard but haven’t for a few years now. The only way I’d get back into it is if my wife and I both were going to commit to getting season passes, so might not be for a few years from now. Hope you have a great weekend!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
DebtDiscipline Wow the 60s? That’s great for November. Hope you have a great weekend too!

Hi, DC.
I’m relatively new to the blogosphere and recently stubbled across your site. I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the content thus far. I don’t tend to follow politics too closely, but I was very interested in the outcome of the elections this past week. I hope that the folks in Washington start to collaborate more over the next two years, but I’m fearing we will see continued gridlock. Congrats on the new car! Take care.
