Happy Friday everyone!
As you may already know, I was at a wedding last weekend. The wedding took place on a farm and through the time and effort of many people ended up being an awesome wedding.
The picture I included at the top of this post is one I took at the wedding. There was a very old barn on the property. I’m not sure how old the barn was, but it had to be in the 80+ range. It had been neglected as it hasn’t been used in decades. It ended up making a truly stunning backdrop for the wedding.
I had a couple of days off from work this week so I’ve been getting some work done around the house, as well as writing blog posts.
I have a few fun things planned this weekend including heading to the casino to play some poker. I used to play a ton of poker during college, but have only played a few times the past couple years. I also will be making to the Minnesota State Fair, which is the biggest fair in the United States.
Below are the posts we published this week:
- On Monday I expained How to Make Money Entering Giveaways.
- On Tuesday I explained The Fastest Way to Get Life Insurance.
- On Wednesday Cat asked Do You Use Cash or Credit Cards?
Posts of the Week:
As usual, here are 5 posts that I enjoyed this week from around the blogosphere:
- Deb from Debt Debs shared her Thoughts on Suicide
- Kassandra from More than Just Money gave a great checklist in Financial Fire Drill – Are You Ready?
- Lauren from Write Budget explained How to Become a Minimalist Without Even Trying
- Tonya from Budget and the Beach talked about Being Uniquely You
- Anne from Money Propeller told us about how she Hired a VA (and it’s Awesome)

I love the picture! We are going to a rodeo this weekend. First one, so should be interesting. We get a lot of free tickets in the military, so we get to see new things all the time. I also didn’t know that the MN state fair was the biggest. We love to take the kids to them. Our last was in San Diego.

Thanks DC for including my post in your roundup. I, for one, am glad we have moved to an age where we talk about mental illness more. As incredibly hard it is to reveal personal secrets, if I can help anyone who is losing hope by sharing my story I am humbled and grateful.

I agree that the barn made a beautiful backdrop in the photo! Thanks for including my post this week and enjoy your week-end DC!

Have fun at the fair. Don’t eat too many bacon covered things!

That’s a pretty picture! Have fun at the fair, and thanks for the blog mention!

I have lots of friends who have wanted to do the barn wedding thing, but they found it cost so much more to bring everything in, rather than have it in a hall where everything is already there/included.

That barn is SO gorgeous!!!!!! I’ll bet it was a lovely wedding. We do the county fair here instead of the state fair. It’s more our speed. :-) Have an awesome weekend, DC!

MoneyMiniBlog I can honestly say I’ve never been to a rodeo, but it sounds like it would be a lot of fun. Free tickets are always a good thing!

debt debs Of course! That was one of the best – or at least most impactful – blog posts I’ve ever read. I’m happy as well about that changing attitude towards seeking therapy, going to a counselor, etc.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
MoreThanJusMony It made for some beautiful photos, that’s for sure. No problem and hope you have a great weekend too!

Eyesonthedollar Thanks! Haha, you don’t have to worry about that. I’m probably one of the 1% of fair-attenders who can’t stand the bacon-infused foods.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Beachbudget Thanks Tonya! And no problem on the mention – hope you have a great weekend!

brokeandbeau The barn was on a property that the bride’s sister and brother-in-law own. It really was a perfect property for the wedding (besides the fact it was two hours away from the cities). But it can definitely be pricey to rent a place like that, so if you don’t know someone who owns one (and is willing to let you us it), things can get pricey quick.

Laurie TheFrugalFarmer I’ve NEVER been to a county fair :0 But going to the State Fair twice a year, every year, is usually more than enough fair experience for me. Hope you have a great weekend!

I love rustic country style weddings like that- so pretty! Thanks so much for including my post :) Hope you have a great weekend, sounds like you will.

I have never been to a state or county fair. What do you plan to do at Minnesota’s? We are going to be working on the basement but also chilling out some this weekend. The basement project has made my son feel neglected, so we plan to give him our undivided attention tomorrow. Enjoy the casino and the fair!

It looks like it was a lovely wedding! I’m all for a change of scenery when it comes to weddings. Every one I’ve been to so far has been in a hall. I hope to be planning a weekend getaway this weekend for sometime in October. Have fun at the fair and casino!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
TheWriteBudget No problem! Hope you have a great weekend too!

blonde_finance Well, as I said the MN state fair is the biggest in the US so it’s easy to stay busy for hours and hours. We’ll definitely be eating a lot of food and hit up some of the exhibits. Midway is always a fun time and there is one specific game that a friend and I have been trying to win for 5+ years – I’m winning this year!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
JourneytoSaving I think having it in a hall isn’t a bad choice, or else I wouldn’t have had mine in one! If you can pull off a farm/rustic wedding I think it can turn out great. I’m just glad my allergies have improved since taking shots the past year or I would have been in a world of hurt.

Hey DC,
How did you end up going with the Poker? Ironically enough when I was in Vegas I only gambled once I was leaving the place at the airport.. Was too focused and distracted with other things :O ha..
Had a great weekend and I’d say the closest thing we have a state fair here in New South Wales is the Sydney royal easter show.. It’s quite pricey though but good for kids (don’t have those yet)
DC @ Young Adult Money says
mycareercrusade People love fairs and carnivals here in the states, so there are quite a few of them. Pretty much every city has some sort of carnival/celebration once a year, plus county/state fairs.
Poker went horribly! But it’s all good, it was the first time I’ve been in about two years, so hopefully it goes better next time.
mycareercrusade says
DC @ Young Adult Money mycareercrusade Am sure that Poker will go great next time :).. Practice makes perfect or permanent right?
That sounds like there’s a big community feel over there, seems like a decent place to get involved in plenty of events
