Happy Friday everyone!
As I mentioned above, I’m excited for football season to start soon. I’m from Minnesota and have always been a Gophers fan but have been into it more recently than in the past. Hopefully our team does well this year. I know John from Frugal Rules has been tweeting quite a bit about K-State.
The only bad thing about football season – or any sport for that matter – is the amount of time it takes up. I actually think that’s why I like football more than other sports. My problem with baseball, basketball, and hockey is that there are so many games. Basketball and hockey aren’t nearly as bad as baseball with their 100+ game seasons (seriously where do people find the time for it?), but there are still so many games. Football is simple and low commitment as a fan: 1 game a week.
I’m starting to enjoy watching soccer more as well, but it’s hard to really get into outside of international play because the United States isn’t where the best players go to play. Beyond that Minnesota doesn’t have a major league team. The MLS is improving year-after-year, but I think it’ll be difficult for it to ever rival leagues like the Barclay Premier League.
I got off on a bit of a tangent there and I have a lot of opinions about sports, so I’ll cut myself off before this post turns into more than a quick Friday post.
I have a bachelor party this weekend so I’m looking forward to that. What are you all up to?

I’m hoping to catch up on life this weekend, so nothing exciting here :) I don’t really care for sports unless it’s the olympics. I’d much rather be active myself.
Holly at ClubThrifty says
I hate professional sports, but some are worse than others. Baseball is ridiculous- way too many games!

Ha ha, I have been busy tweeting about that! I just got our season tickets in the mail this week so I’m pretty excited to say the least. The only bummer is I’m going to be missing the first two games (including our game against Auburn) due to travel. Anyway, now that my younger brother lives in Kansas it should be a nice way for us to spend some time together. As far as if it takes too much time…I don’t know that I’m the best person to ask. ;) I used to follow football A LOT more, but now that we have a family it has been cut a ton.

When I was watching the hockey playoffs I felt like it might have been taking too much time, but I really enjoyed it! I kind of wish I was a football fan because so many people are around here, and FB posts are full of football things in the fall, most of which I can’t relate to. I am going to Michigan/Penn State game when I’m home in Michigan in Oct. My mom has had season tickets since 1977, and she didn’t even go there, or is even from Michigan!

I can’t believe it is football time already! I live just south of Green Bay so it has been insane with Packer euphoria since training camp started. It’s hard for me to move on to football season before baseball is done. Big Brewer fan and we are actually good again so it has been taking up more time this year. Of course, I got rid of cable last year so I need to sneak my way around to stream games online!
Also, seems to be some BigTen love around here, so I just need to say, Go Bucky :)

Thank you so much for the mention! Mr. FW and I really appreciate it! I’m not much of a sports fan, though I do like college basketball. Looking forward to this weekend because we’re celebrating Mr. FW’s 31st birthday! Craft beer, hiking, and BBQ are in the plans :). Have fun at the bachelor party!

Thanks for the mention. I’m a little excited about the Broncos but not so much that I’ll waste much energy over it. How on earth did they get the name Golden Gophers? Doesn’t seem like a very intimidating mascot, but better than the Oregon Ducks or Syracuse Orange.

Thank you so much for including my post! I’m not a big sports fan, and I’m actually kind of annoyed that football is starting up soon, haha. I used to watch a lot of baseball when the Phils were doing good, but it’s too depressing now :( At least I got to experience them wining the World Series in ’08, that was awesome.

BudgetBlonde LSU fans have it pretty good : ) Very easy for you guys to recruit top talent. And no problem for the mention!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
brokeandbeau Haha best of luck catching up on life. I could use a weekend – or week – to do that. Can’t you be both active AND a sports fan?
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Holly at ClubThrifty I’m becoming less of a pro sports fan and more of a college sports fan. I have trouble following things beside football recently because one game a week is already a lot of time to give towards entertainment.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
FrugalRules Haha I tweet quite a bit about the Gophers once the season gets rolling, mainly retweets and whatnot. It’s too bad you’ll miss two games but hopefully you can sell them for at least break-even (or a gain!). My wife just bought tickets for us for a Gophers game in September and I’ll probably go to at least one more game. I definitely spend too much time on football on the weekends in the Fall, but it happens.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Beachbudget Holy crap 1977! And I can’t blame you about the hockey playoffs. When your city’s team is doing well in the post-season it’s hard not to get caught up in it. I get WAY too emotionally invested when the Vikings make the playoffs.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Thias @WealthHike I think the Badgers are one of my least favorite teams, right behind the Packers. I’m not that into baseball but can you blame me? The Twins have been terrible for quite some time now.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Mrs. Frugalwoods Happy Birthday to your husband! Sounds like a great plan for the weekend. Have a good one!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Eyesonthedollar Goldy is the best mascot out there! Haha, but yeah there are a lot of random names for college teams.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
TheWriteBudget I can’t imagine how awesome it would be to have your home team win a World Series – or championship in any sport, for that matter. It’s been a while since we won one here in Minnesota ;) Have a great weekend!
Jay at Thinking Wealthy says
Nothing useful here, just wanted to stop by and say Go Gamecocks! Football season can’t come soon enough.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Jay at Thinking Wealthy My post wasn’t useful? Crap…sorry about that. Just kidding I know what you meant. Go Gophers!
debt debs says
I dated a football player (college) for 7 years. I used to be able to name every NFL team. My football days went with him, but that’s okay. At least I understand the game. ;-)
Jay at Thinking Wealthy says
DC @ Young Adult Money Jay at Thinking Wealthy Haha, Whoops. Should have phrased it better but glad you got my point. Football is coming!
Laurie TheFrugalFarmer says
I used to watch lots of football and baseball, but now pretty much only watch on Superbowl Sunday. Too many other things vying for my time. :-) Have an awesome time at the bachelor party, DC!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Jay at Thinking Wealthy DC @ Young Adult Money Haha no worries, but yeah can’t wait for football!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
debt debs Wow, I can only imagine how much they talked about football if they played at the college level. It would take a lot of dedication to make it to that level. I’m sure you have a great understanding of the game now.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Laurie TheFrugalFarmer You seem to be pretty busy, Laurie, so I’m not surprised that you only watch the Super Bowl now. Thanks, the bach party was good! Hope you had a great weekend.

Thanks for the mention, DC. I appreciate it! :) I’m not a huge football fan personally but husband enjoys it and he’s looking forward to season starting. Hope you had fun at your bachelor party!
