Happy Friday everyone!
Just a couple updates this week:
-
Interviewing & Job Search
It’s official: I have a job offer! I mentioned I had been interviewing the past few weeks and it’s great to have a job offer in hand and I’m ready for some new challenges.
This job is in financial planning and analysis, or FP&A as you may know it as. I’m looking forward to working in this function instead of accounting & reporting because, well, I got my degree in finance not accounting. With that being said, getting four years of accounting experience was definitely valuable as it’s looked at in a positive light to potential employers, at least that’s what I’ve experienced throughout this process.
I will likely have a number of posts about interviewing, dealing with transitioning jobs, etc. in the future since I’ve experienced it firsthand recently.

I’m not interested in soccer, but my husband certainly is, so there’s been a lot of world cup watching going on here. Thanks so much for the mention!! Hope you have an excellent weekend :)

Very cool on the new job DC! I think I saw something about FB about it. :) I caught a little bit of our game on TV, but not much beyond that. As far as something good…we’ve been absolutely slammed with work this week so I’m glad it’s over! Have a great weekend DC!
blonde_finance says
Congrats again on the new job!!! 4 years of Accounting will help you in a lot of ways, especially in this next job. Can’t wait to hear about the process you went through and the lessons you learned along the way. We are totally into soccer. But since we cut cable, we are actually watching it on Univision. Which has not only allowed us to watch soccer, but also brush up on our Spanish. :-) Thanks for including my post this week!! Don’t forget to give yourself a pat on the back for the new job! You earned it!

TheWriteBudget Haha this sounds like me and my wife! I am really into the World Cup and she, by default, gets exposed to quite a bit of the World Cup. I do think she’s starting to like it a bit more as my enthusiasm wears off on her ;)
Hope you have a great weekend!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
FrugalRules It’s so great being friends with some bloggers on Facebook. Much easier to keep up with what everyone’s up to!
Good to hear about the busy work week! Much better than having things be slow. Hope you have a great weekend as well!

blonde_finance Thanks Shannon! I am very grateful for my accounting experience and the fact is that forecasting is largely based on historical/actuals so having a solid understanding of it and how the various accounts fall in the P&L and whatnot is a huge benefit going forward.
I was at a viewing party at a bar/restaurant for the USA game and Univision was there and I actually talked to one of the guys briefly. Sounds like a great network and a great channel to catch some world cup coverage if you don’t have cable.
I’ll definitely try to remember to give myself a pat on the back ;)

Congratulations on the new job, that is exciting! I haven’t watched one game, my village is watching in the street as the local shop put a TV but has no space inside, everyone is out cheering, which is funny as their team didn’t make it to the world cup.
Beachbudget says
Congrats on the new job and good luck in the contest!

Congrats on the new job! that is very exciting and sounds really interesting work too. I would learn more about my company’s tax planning functions. Hopefully down the road I will get some exposure. We don’t have cable and really haven’t watched much of the games at all. We are hoping to go to our fav bar and watch a game this weekend. Have a great weekend.

Congrats on your new job, DC! I’ve worked in those areas before. It’s always nice to have a change after you’ve been in one area for awhile. My finance roles included Corporate Finance, Accounting Manager, Cost Accounting, Controller, FP&A, Mergers & Acquisitions, Finance Systems, Internal Audit. I had a 10 year stint in IT as well, including Project Management. Let’s put it this way, I’ve never been bored in any of my roles!

Congrats on the job! I’ve been watching the World Cup, but I don’t have cable so I watch it on the Spanish Language channel “Univision”…I think my Spanish has improved! haha Hopefully Altidore can return if they get into the knockout rounds.
Raquel@Practical Cents says
Wow, Congrats on the Job Offer! Sounds exciting. Looking forward to hearing about your experience.
Oh you know I’m into the World Cup. I have cable but I still watch on Univision because I like how they call the games better plus who doesn’t love the Gooooooooooooooooooool when someone scores. I watch World Cup Tonight on ESPN though. It’s been a great tournament so far. Some interesting surprises I must say. Totally disappointed with the Portugal loss and Spain is Out! Crazy. The USA game was excellent. I’m looking forward to the match up with Portugal on Sunday. I’m loving watching the new comers to the tournament like Messi and Neymar, and the Nederlands is on Fire! Of course Brazil will always be special because it was the first team I rooted for but I see stronger opponents out there. We’ll see how far they go.
Thanks for mentioning my post. Enjoy your weekend.

Congratulations on your job offer, DC! Sounds like a wonderful opportunity for you! Looking forward to hearing more about your interview and transition process. Have a great weekend!
JourneytoSaving says
Congrats! That’s great news. I’ll be looking forward to hearing your insights on the process. We haven’t watched the World Cup as we aren’t big soccer fans. I don’t think I’ve seen it on any of our available channels. Enjoy your weekend!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Beachbudget Thanks! You know how I love contests haha
DC @ Young Adult Money says
RFIndependence Thanks! I’m looking forward to doing something new. It’s intense how much people around the world love the World Cup – even if their team doesn’t qualify!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
BudgetforMore Thanks! It’s going to be a good change and should be challenging. I’m sure if you seek out a job in that function you’ll be able to find one, or at least be able to work on a project related to it. I watched the first US game at a bar downtown and it was a ton of fun. They even had a player there who played for team USA in the 2002 World Cup!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Andrew LivingRichCheaply Lots of people seem to be watching it on Univision! They actually did an interview at a bar I was at for the first game (there was a former Team USA World Cup player there). Yeah I really hope Altidore can return. Hamstring injuries suck.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
ShannonRyan Thanks Shannon! Hope you have a great weekend as well!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
JourneytoSaving Thanks! I think every single game is available on ESPN or ESPN2, and they never overlap which is nice because it’s just constantly on haha. I do have ESPN and it’s in part because of stuff like the World Cup. Hope you have a great weekend as well!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Raquel@Practical Cents Thanks! Haha I watched some of the Mexico “friendlies” before the World Cup and I absolutely loved how the announcers yelled when a goal was scored. So much passion! I really hope the US can beat Portugal and (hopefully) move on to the next round. It would be awesome to see them advance.
Hope you have a great weekend!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
debt debs Wow sounds like you’ve done just about everything! I’m looking forward to my FP&A role, and because this group is growing (due to acquisitions) it’s going to include some onboarding and whatnot, which is interesting to me.
Joshua Rodriguez says
Hey DC, I’m not a big World Cup fan…I know…horrible! Anyway, congrats on the job man. It’s great that you found something you’ll enjoy more than what you’ve done for the last 4 years. Finally, thanks for mentioning me, I really appreciate it!
Eyesonthedollar says
Congrats in the new job. It sounds right up your alley. I could care less about the world cup. It seems like people really get into it, so maybe I’m missing out? Thanks for the mention.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Joshua Rodriguez Haha no problem, people seem to love it or not care about it. No problem on the mention!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Eyesonthedollar Meh people seem to either really care about it or not at all. For some reason I care WAY more this time than any in the past. No problem on the mention!
mycareercrusade says
Definitely been keeping track of the WC (World Cup) and looking forward to the 1/4 final in Rio in about 14 days :).. Should be France vs Germany.. I see the US did well in it’s first game and will be playing Belgium overnight?
Congrats on the new job and looking forward to reading more career related posts :) (even happy to post for you one of these days)

DC @ Young Adult Money mycareercrusade Great game and you guys (the US) nearly knocked them out.. Just quietly I’m hoping Germany beats you tomorrow or maybe a draw would be good, then you both go through :)
Good luck and I won’t be around for the next 5 weeks but see you upon my return
