The Winter Olympics are here! I personally enjoy the Summer Olympics more than the Winter Olympics, but I’m sure I will check out some of the events. I mean, curling is only televised once every four years ;)
Welcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup!
If you’re new here, every week I write a weekly wrap-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.
If you don’t already, please considering Following us on Twitter, Liking us on Facebook, and Following us on Pinterest.
We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are 147 giveaways listed this week that end today (2/7) through next Thursday (2/13).

How was your week? I had a busy week with month-end close and working on a health care reform-related project as my company works to comply with some of the regulations that come into effect this year. Needless to say, I’m ready for the weekend!
I don’t have many updates from this week, but I’m looking forward to watching some of the Olympics this weekend. I like the Summer Olympics a lot more than Winter because there are events like soccer and basketball that I could watch all day long (there actually are NBC channels devoted solely to these sports – crazy!).
For the Winter Olympics I’ll watch a little bit of everything, but probably will try specifically to catch snowboarding and hockey.
Besides that I just hope to relax and get some blog work done, as well as spend some time with friends. What are you up to?
Below are the posts we published this week:
- Monday I shared Three things to consider when shopping for your next vehicle.
- On Tuesday Sally shared her new addiction in My New Addiction to Using Cold, Hard Cash.
- On Wednesday Cat gave some Valentine’s Day ideas in Valentine’s Day Gifts She’ll Love for $20 or Less.
- On Thursday I asked Why Outsourcing Will Increase and What it Means for Americans.
Posts of the Week:
As usual, here are five posts from this week that I enjoyed:
- John from Frugal Rules gives all the guys out there some ideas in 5 Great Valentine Gift Ideas for Your Wife
- Michelle from Fit is the New Poor shares Frugal Old Fashioned Date
- Monica from Monica on Money asks Why Not You?
- E.M. from Journey to Saving asks When Have You Paid the Price?
- Shannon from Financially Blonde uses a sports analogy in Financial Fitness Series – Game Week Strategies

How was your week? Do you plan on watching any of the Olympics? If so, which events? Up to anything interesting this weekend?

fitisthenewpoor No problem! It was a good post. I’m always happy to share good posts!

I am with you, I like the summer Olympics over the winter Olympics, but what I love about both is learning about the athletes and how hard they have worked to get to the Olympics. There are so many wonderful human interest stories as far as the joys and heartbreaks of being an Olympic athlete, and I am looking forward to those. Thank you SO much for the mention! Have a great weekend!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
blonde_finance Very true about the human interest stories. There’s always so many good ones! It’s incredible what people sacrifice to get to the Olympics.
Beachbudget says
I like both Olympics pretty equally! Between doing my taxes and the Olympics, I doubt anyone will see me for two weeks!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Beachbudget Haha that’s understandable! Gosh taxes are time-consuming….I feel like I’ve gathered 100 documents and still have more to gather, and that’s all before I even start entering my information *sigh*

I like watching the figure skaters the most. Especially the couples and the dance figure skaters because they are so dramatic. I have to check out the schedule as these Olympics feel like they just creeped up on me. I had no idea they started today until earlier this week. I guess the start date was overshadowed by the controversy with the host nation. I’m also looking forward to the World Cup this summer. I love watching soccer during the World Cup. The players are so passionate about this tournament. Enjoy your weekend!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Raquel@Practical CentsI can’t wait for the World Cup! I just really hope the USA can somehow sneak in. Tough pool for them. Which reminds me, I need to check when those games are so I don’t miss them.

I don’t know what it is, but curling now does it for me….along with all the track races (bobsled, luge, skeleton). For some reason during the next two weeks the cold weather seems more fun than ugly, which I like, too!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
AverageJoeMoneyI definitely hope to catch some curling events. Bobsled is fun to watch as well. It’s so interesting to me that these sports are never really televised except at the Olympics.

Thanks for the mention! I like the Winter Olympics a bit better. Snowboarding and skiing are my favorites to watch. I’m sure it will make its way onto our TV at some point this weekend. I’m just hoping we don’t get any more snow, as it’s forecasted for Sunday.
DC @ Young Adult Money says
JourneytoSavingYeah we’ve suffered some really cold weather and a lot of snow here in Minnesota this Winter. I was watching some of the snowboarding qualifiers last night and the sheer size of the jumps are absolutely insane, not to mention the tricks they do while in the air.

We will definitely watch parts of the olympics. I think Chris enjoys the summer olympics more too. And now that I think about I do too! The girls like figure skating, shocking, I know. :) It honestly just seems so cold and I’m spoiled, although it has been chilly here this week. I won’t say how cold, you may throw a snowball at me! Have a great weekend, DC!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
ShannonRyanHaha you’re right, I might throw a snowball at you! It was 40 degrees here a week and a half ago and it was like a heat wave. It won’t be above 30 for at least a week here and it has been below 30 for about a week :/ It would be nice to get the temp above 30 so we can get car washes and clean up some of the snow and ice. Hope you have a great weekend!

Both Rick and I are working this weekend too, DC. Fun stuff. :-( We haven’t watched much of the Winter Olympics before. We’ll have to check into that in the little bit of free time we have this weekend. Have a great weekend, DC. :-)

I’m definitely a fan of summer olympics (I was a gymnast growing up). But the new slope style event has been pretty neat to watch.
Eyesonthedollar says
One of the Olympic slopestyle snowboarders is from Telluride. I used to do his eye exams when he was a little kid, so I’m rooting for him, of course. I also heard Bob Costas say Pussy Riot on national TV, that right there was worth watching Olympic coverage!
ImpersonalFinance says
That health care reform business is just ridiculous. I’ll be glad when it’s over (which likely will be never).
