Welcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup!
If you’re new here, every week I write a weekly wra3p-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.

We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are 202 giveaways listed this week that end today (1/17) through next Thursday (1/23).

Blogging – On Saturday I met with the designer who is going to do the redesign of Young Adult Money. We had some good conversations about what would be best for the redesign, and it seems like he will go out of his way to make sure the redesign is everything I’m looking for, as well as designed in such a way that makes the site as functional as possible.
I also am making progress on my second website. I now have two blog posts and an email account set up. I want to have 8-10 posts set up before making it public. For the design I am using Thesis, but will likely spend little to no time on the actual design work. I will probably have the same designer create a custom design, logo and header.
In case you’re curious this second site has nothing to do with personal finance. I’ll just say it would fall under the “health” category (but not fitness – can you guess what it is?).
Spreadsheet Work – I created three new spreadsheets tools for the blog that I will share over the next few weeks. Working on these spreadsheets reminded me how much I enjoy that kind of work. I am starting to keep a list of spreadsheet tools/ideas that I can make for the blog, and I hope to make as many as possible this year.
I’ve thought about starting a spreadsheet blog that focuses primarily on Excel and Google Spreadsheets, but if I’m honest with myself it’s not a good idea right now. I am working on a number of “to-do” lists for this blog while also getting a second blog started. At the same time, Excel blogs can get a TON of traffic (even for very old posts), could lead to consulting side work, and other opportunities. It’s potentially more lucrative than blogging and directly relates to my current career in finance. I’ll have to think about this…
Below are the posts we published this week:
- On Monday I asked Is Roku a Good Alternative to Cable?.
- On Tuesday Sally talked about college and finances in My College Finances.
- On Wednesday Cat shared 4 Ways to Stop Wasting Money This Year.
- On Thursday I explained How to Save Money using Chippmunk.

Good luck with the redesign! That’s something I’m going to be doing very soon as well. Lots to learn there.

Matt @ Mom and Dad MoneyThanks! There is definitely a lot to learn if you are going the DIY option. I went that route the first time around, it’ll be nice this time with a paid contractor doing all the work.

I’ve been meaning to mention that I had the weirdest dream and you were in it. You were paying me to organize in a spreadsheet names of people who were in a witness protection program. You paid me a small amount per person, but it depended on how “Seriously” they needed to be protected. You also warned me that knowing where these people lived also put me in danger so I was pretty stressed about the job. Thats the dream in a nutshell. Strange huh? lol! Can’t wait to see the new site!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
BeachbudgetHaha wow that is really strange! You must associate me with spreadsheets pretty strongly if I ended up in your dream about spreadsheets. Have a great weekend!

When do you think your new design will be ready? Will be excited to see what YAM looks like after the redesign. No big plans yet for the 3-day weekend here. hopefully just relaxing!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
BudgetforMore Well, I just met with him on Saturday so I think it will be probably 4-6 weeks. I’m excited for a more functional site. I hope you find plenty of time to relax on the 3 day weekend!

I’m working on a redesign of The Heavy Purse too. Pretty soon your wife will no longer ask you why you read a pink blog. LOL! That still makes me smile! :) I am proficient in spreadsheets but I suspect no where near the level you are. Looking forward to the unveiling of your new blog. Enjoy your long weekend!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
ShannonRyan Haha that was so funny when she asked me that! I look forward to seeing your redesign, it’s always fun to switch things up. Hope you have a great weekend too!

Thanks for the mention DC. I appreciate it! Looking forward to seeing your redesign. hmm…your new website, I don’t know maybe healthy cooking? Enjoy your weekend!
DC @ Young Adult Money says
Raquel@Practical Cents No problem! I definitely can relate to your home ownership pains. Just have to keep telling ourselves it’s worth it. Hope you have a great weekend too!

My guess is that you’re going to write about healthcare. :)
DC @ Young Adult Money says
BudgetBlonde *ding ding ding* we have a winner! It is about health care!

Thanks for the mention. Are you doing a website about HSA’s? That would be really cool and I’m excited thinking about it. The only other health thing that would be more exciting is eyeballs, but I can’t see you doing that one.

Thanks for the mention. I’m sort of a spreadsheet nerd so I’m excited to see the new tools you’re working on. No big plans here, I’m glad for the long weekend because I have a bunch of stuff I want to work on around the house (cleaning, organizing, taking some stuff to storage etc.).
