As unemployment in the United States continues to climb, many millennials find themselves without a job.
Since many, many businesses are still closed due to COVID, the job options available are slim. And it could take many months – or a vaccine – for companies to ramp staffing back up to pre-COVID levels.
Fortunately, one area that his hiring now more than ever is delivery. And it makes sense if you think about it – since everyone is home during quarantine, they are having things delivered to them.
Whether you’re looking for a full-time gig or a side hustle, check out this list of companies that will pay you to deliver.
1) Postmates
With Postmates you can get paid to deliver food and drinks from restaurants, groceries, and non-food products.
Postmates is one of the largest delivery platforms on this list, and serves a broad range of areas.
We’ve been following a few other bloggers who swear by Postmates. During COVID, some have made over $80 an hour. Like we’ve been saying, demand is huge right now for delivery.
Delivery drivers with Postmates are paid based on mileage and wait times, and of course get tips. So, it is optimal to ensure you actually get paid for your time, especially if you are able to drive during busy times of day, such as meal times.
2) DoorDash
DoorDash delivers food from restaurants to consumers.
When a customer places an order through DoorDash, you will receive notice. You may have to go wait at the restaurant until the customer’s order is ready. Then you pay for the order using a card provided by DoorDash.
Income potential through DoorDash depends heavily on your market. If you live in a large city, you are likely going to earn more money due to an increase in demand and shorter driving distances.
3) Instacart
Want to become a personal shopper for clients? Then Instacart may be a great option for you.
The nice thing about Instacart is you have a variety of options for how you want to work. You can either be a full-service shopper, which shops and delivers groceries to customers. Or, you can be an in-store shopper, which does not require a vehicle. Instead of delivering items, you simply pick out the items, and someone else will deliver.
Either option is very flexible with your schedule, which is a huge selling point of Instacart.
4) Amazon Flex
As you could likely guess by the name, with Amazon Flex you deliver Amazon packages to customers. The nice thing about Amazon is there are several components to delivery. You can deliver packages for Prime, AmazonFresh, and regular Amazon, giving you plenty of options.
Further, Amazon operates in a block system. In the app, you can select the times you are available and will then receive delivery blocks.
Amazon’s website claims Flex drivers can make anywhere between $18 and $25 an hour, making it one lucrative gig.
5) Saucey
Saucey is unique from everything else on this list because with Saucey, you deliver alcohol within 30 minutes of a customer’s order. Obviously, you need to be comfortable with checking customer IDs and purchasing alcohol in order to be successful with Saucey.
Saucey is somewhat limited in its market. It is mostly found in large cities, such as Chicago, LA, Dallas, Seattle, and New York City, to name a few.
With Saucey, delivery drivers can expect to earn a flat $5 for each delivery, plus an additional $0.50 per item purchased. Of course, couriers get to keep the entire tip to themselves.
Once you deliver the alcohol to the customers, you will need to check the ID before actually handing over the alcohol to ensure they are of age.
6) Shipt
With Shipt, customers can place orders through a variety of stores, including Meijer, Costco, Target, and more.
Once the customer places the order, delivery drivers go and actually pick out the items. This is important, especially with groceries. Couriers must pick out the freshest produce in accordance to the customer’s preferences.
Shipt claims drivers can earn up to $22 an hour, but that does depend heavily on the job. Some jobs may take a long time to complete, which lowers your hourly rate. However, many couriers enjoy the variety of shopping they can do through Shipt.
7) UberEats
If you’ve ever considered driving for Uber, but were uncomfortable transporting strangers in your car, then UberEats may be a better option for you.
With UberEats, you deliver restaurant orders to customers. You don’t have to be an Uber driver to drive for UberEats, although they do use the same app.
One appealing feature of UberEats is its surge pricing, which is similar to how Uber works. During busy times of the day, you can earn more money due to the increase in demand. So, if you are able to drive during meal times, you may be able to earn more through UberEats.
8) GrubHub
GrubHub is yet another food delivery company, although it may be one of the broadest ones on this list. GrubHub is offered in over 4,000 cities in the United States and in London.
Signing up with GrubHub is easy, and they have a smooth and established onboarding process. They will even send you all of the car decals and warming bags you need.
9) Caviar
Caviar is another food delivery service, but with a twist. Caviar focuses specifically on delivering food from higher-end restaurants, which means more earning potential for drivers.
While Caviar is somewhat limited in its niche, customers tend to spend more money on nicer restaurants, which means higher tips for drivers.
10) Deliv
Deliv drivers deliver retail items to customers from stores such as Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, and department stores. It currently operates in 35 markets across the United States, so it isn’t yet available everywhere.
Deliv drivers can expect to earn up to $22 an hour, and are paid weekly.
