Moving can be an extremely stressful experience. Thankfully there are many ways to alleviate the stress of moving and make it a smooth process. Today I have three tips to help make moving a little less stressful – and perhaps even fun!
Make Plans as Far in Advance as Possible
Planning is key when it comes to moving. The very first step in moving is to have everything finalized for ending your current lease – or selling your current house – as well as for your new place. Sometimes there can be a time crunch where you have to be moved out one day and moved in to the new place the next day. If there is any way you can work in some overlap in these dates to provide you flexibility can be a great way to reduce the stress of being on a time crunch.
Pack as far in Advance as Possible
Packing can be a nightmare – or it can be a smooth and efficient process. Take some of the following ideas into consideration when packing:
- Get Plenty of Boxes – No one wants to run out of boxes when only half their stuff is packed. You can get boxes from work, friends/family, or simply purchase at the store.
- Start Early – Don’t underestimate how long it takes to pack. It can take a long time to get everything packed up and ready to go. The last thing you want is to be up until 3am the night before you move (been there, done that!). Find things you can go without until you move and get them packed early, even a few weeks in advance if you can. For example, are you really going to need access to all your books and DVDs the last two weeks in your place? If not, pack them up.
Get Help from Friends and Family or Hire a Reputable Moving Company
The most important thing for you to do in preparation for moving is hiring a reputable company and/or having family and friends help you move. The more help you have the easier it will be to get the job done quickly and efficiently.
Another option is to have friends and family help you move. While I’m sure your friends and family want to help, you have to realize they are sacrificing part of their weekend or a weekday night to help you make the move possible. With that being said, make sure that you do everything you can to make the process smooth for them. Having everything packed, providing food and drinks, and only asking for a few hours of help can make it a better experience.
